Far from an artsy past – Sydney’s largest island has a colourful history as a former imperial prison, industrial school, reformatory and gaol. The island was also an integral part of Sydney’s maritime history – the site was used as one of Australia’s biggest shipyards during the twentieth century.
Fast forward to 2012 and the gritty workshops and rundown industrial buildings of Sydney’s Cockatoo Island have been transformed into vibrant explosion of urban art.
On a sunny Sunday I took the ferry over to check it out, here a few snaps.

Wow, beautiful shots – I love the colors and lines in these. Especially the woman in the lower middle pic.
Thanks so much!
